“Referendum” on the deficit: François Bayrou chooses to remain vague

One more moment, Mr. Executioner, before presenting clear avenues for savings or revenue for the next budget that will inevitably anger people and put his head on the chopping block. Nearly three weeks after not having formulated anything specific following the Public Finance Alert Committee on April 15 , François Bayrou managed, this Sunday, May 4, not to say more, in a very long interview with the far-right weekly Journal du Dimanche, owned by Vincent Bolloré. By means of a not-so-subtle diversion – submitting to the French people by referendum a "reform plan" that would look very much like a finance bill – the Prime Minister thus spares himself yet again from emerging, inevitably at his expense, from ambiguity.
